The Business Bank Expands into New Hampshire with Opening of Portsmouth Office

[May 18, 2026] A new banking office has joined the Portsmouth, NH community. The Business Bank opened a Financial Center at 909 Islington Street, Suite 10 in Portsmouth on Monday, May 18. This is the second full-service location for the bank, which is headquartered in South Burlington, VT.  In addition, the bank opened a commercial lending office in East Longmeadow, MA last year.

The Business Bank was started in 2022 to bring back high-service, relationship-driven banking to local businesses – but with modern tools and forward thinking. Four years later, that foundation has grown into a model that proves local banking can thrive, adapt, and grow across the Northeast. Now, with branch and lending offices located in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, The Business Bank is dedicated to serving businesses across New England.

The bank offers personal, municipal, and commercial deposit accounts, but only lends to businesses. On the deposit side, the bank boasts high interest and no-fee checking accounts (including no overdraft fees).  For businesses, the bank offers strong relationships, local decision making, and quick decisions, all high-value benefits for business owners who need a nimble partner to meet their rapidly changing needs. All customers are provided best-in-class digital services that let them handle all their banking needs from wherever they are.

“We started this bank to return high-service, relationship-driven banking to Vermont, but to do it with modern tools and forward thinking,” said Geoffrey Hesslink, CEO and Chairman of The Business Bank. “That foundation has grown into a model that proves local banking can thrive, adapt, and grow in markets across the Northeast.”

“We’re proud of the Vermont roots and values that have made our business-focused model so successful,” said John Burcke, President of The Business Bank. “We look forward to building on this success as we expand our presence in New Hampshire.”
